DLYC Youth Sailing School

Most of the DLYC youth activities are open to all local residents and families. You do not need to be a member to participate in Sailing School or in Swimming Classes. Non-members will pay a slightly higher price. Registration opened in April. To register for a class, please look for Calendar on the above webpage and select the date and event you would like to register. For safety reasons, all classes accept a limited number of students. If the class you are interested in is full, please look to other dates with openings - we have added more classes this summer!

The
Diamond Lake Sailing School is open to all – members and non-members. We focus on learning the fun and safety of sailing and provide hand on experience on the water with our seasoned instructors. All of our instructors have graduated through the many levels of the courses offered. Our most popular course is Learn to Sail with students leaning about the boat and techniques – then launching into the water to try their knowledge with our instructors. Each class is half day, four days a week(Friday is reserved for rain dates and racing), either Mornings 9A-12N and Afternoons 1P-4P. We also offer an Intermediate Class, for those sailors who have taken at least one Learn to Sail Class and would like to enhance their skills with other types of boats and an introduction to racing. We offer Fun Sail or Practice Sailing on Wednesday Nights to all our Sailing Students Past and Present, .

For DLYC members only - we offer the extremely popular KinderSail for future sailors ages 4 -6 years. Each child will learn the parts of the boat, safety techniques and enjoy a daily sail on the water with an instructor. This course tends to fill up quickly! We are offering a new course Parent & Child -the purpose of this class is for a sailing student to show his or her parents what they are learning in their Sailing Class. These two-hour sessions are held on Saturday from 10A-12N and limited to three groups of two persons. An instructor will over see this class. For our more seasoned Sailors – this year DLYC is establishing a Race Team headed by Tim Hesse. Here these students will learn how to compete in different class boats on Diamond Lake (while having fun racing other students and instructors!)

If any of the DLYC Members only classes sound like a fit for your child – please consider joining the DLYC ( Membership Tab). It is a great way for them and you to meet other kids and parents on the lake and be able to participate in scheduled activities throughout the year.

Here’s to a great 2023 Youth Sailing Season!

Youth Swimming

Our program is taught outdoors on the shoreline of the DLYC and is one of the few classes available in the area.  The program follows the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program YMCA swim lessons as taught by the YMCA of Southwest Michigan.  The program is designed for children of all ages.  All members and non-members of the DLYC will be required to sign a release form prior to participation.  Registration for this class is through the YMCA.  For more information about the youth swimming classes, go to the Youth Swimming tab.
