 Diamond Lake Youth Sailing

Sailing is a long standing tradition at Diamond Lake.  The goal of the Diamond Lake Youth Sailing Program is to teach sailing and seamanship in a safe, fun, structured environment.  Our program promotes sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-reliance, and a respect for nature and fellow boaters. Our goal is to develop a love for sailing and to build confidence in our sailors' own abilities.

Summer 2018

Classes will be offered during the following weeks
July 9th-12th and
July 16th- 19th
Classes will take place from 1pm to 4pm from Monday to Thursday.
Friday is reserved for an optional "Fun Day" or make-up classes in the event of inclement weather.

Classes will cost $80 for members and $100 for non-members per week. Payment can be made in cash or via check made out to DLYC. Registration can be completed via a Google Form found by clicking here. In addition to registration, we require a signed parental release form in order to let the kids out onto the water which can be found here. In order to make sure we have all the staff and equipment necessary to facilitate classes, we ask that you complete the registration form by 5pm on the Friday preceding the week of class you are signing up for. We are very excited for sailing this year and are looking forward to another great season!

Boats and Equipment

We ask that each kid come prepared to class with a towel, life-jacket, sunscreen, water, and any other items they may need to stay outside for the duration of class. As far as boats go, the club does have some boats for use in lessons, but if you have your own Sunfish, we highly recommend sailing in your own boat. Every boat has its quirks, and skills are improved when you get comfortable in your own boat, and it can become your trusted companion!

Some boat storage is available at the yacht club on racks in the water. If you wish to leave your boat at the yacht club for the duration of the summer, a fee of $50 for the season is required for boat storage. If you are just hoping to leave your boat at the club during the weeks with lessons, please contact either instructor to make sure there is room on the racks for your boat.

Other Sailing Events

In addition to youth sailing lessons, there is also a weekly Sunfish race series Saturdays at 1pm. We do two races per weekend and DLYC boats can be borrowed for races if you don't have your own boat.
We hope to see you out on the water!
