 Diamond Lake Youth Sailing

Sailing is a long standing tradition at Diamond Lake.  The goal of the Diamond Lake Youth Sailing Program is to teach sailing and seamanship in a safe, fun, structured environment.  Our program promotes sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-reliance, and a respect for nature and fellow boaters. Our goal is to develop a love for sailing and to build confidence in his/her abilities.

Summer 2017

We have restructured the class schedule this year to four separate weeks of classes in July. Participants can sign up for one or multiple weeks.  We hope this structure will encourage increased participation as you can choose the weeks that work best for you.  Sailors may sign up for one to four weeks, each week will have three classes, Wed-Fri.  Afternoon classes are designed for those newer to sailing, beginners or those will some experience, but not enough to be comfortable sailing alone.  Mornings will be for those who have enough experience to sail alone and are looking to improve their skills and confidence.

The club has a limited number of boats available, but if you have your own, you are highly encouraged to use it.  Skills are improved when you get comfortable in your own boat, and it can become your trusted companion!

Some boat storage is available at the club; please check with Leah on availability. A fee of $50 for the season is required for boat storage.  This option was available on the membership form. If you did not get a chance to sign up, please contact Leah to see if any more space is available.
No boats may be stored on the lawn at the club.

Our Lead Instructor:

Leah Peluchiwski - Began sailing here on Diamond Lake when she was 8 years old and has enjoyed spending the past 10 summers here on both her beloved Sunfish and MC participating in lessons, racing, and eventually instructing. She also has experience sailing 420s on her high school team, and has continued on this boat with the Notre Dame Sailing Club Team. She has enjoyed getting to sail all over the Midwest and East Coast and wants to continue sharing her love of sailing with others.

Other sailing opportunities:

Sailors of all abilities and ages are invited to:

  1. Sunfish races scheduled for Thursdays at 5pm.

  2. DLYC All Sail Day, Saturday, June 10.  Please join in the fun as we sail with those of all ages.

  3. Information about our Chalk Talk and sailing lessons for our “young at heart (mature!) members” can be found under the sailing tab on the website.

It is going to be a great year, and we look forward to working with the DLYC youth!
